KY edStorytellers Fellowship
Are you a Kentucky student wanting to explore education issues in your area through podcasting? You are in the right place!
What is this Fellowship?
The KY edStorytellers Fellowship is an 8-month program teaching Kentucky students journalism tenets, storytelling techniques, and production skills in order to amplify and elevate the voices of students who are least heard in our education systems through podcasting.
The Fellowship is funded through a grant from National Geographic and is powered by the Get Schooled podcast team.
Who is the Fellowship for?
The Fellowship is targeting cohorts students from underrepresented backgrounds including but not limited to:
Students of color
Students outside of Central Kentucky
Students in rural areas
Even if you do not think you fall into these groups, still consider applying as you can still join our podcast team and have acccess to Fellowship materials as a non-Fellow!
What does the Fellowship look like?
The fellowship consists of three phases:
Podcasting Basics: You will learn the skills needed to produce podcast episodes.
Hands-On: You will get to apply your skills working alongside the Get Schooled team members as we produce episodes throughout the Fellowship.
Try It Yourself: You will start tackling education equity issues in your own schools and communities and create podcasts/mini-series with mentorship from Get Schooled team members
What do Fellows get?
A $500 stipend
Podcasting equipment (including Adobe Creative Cloud and microphones)
Mentoring as you create your own investigative podcast series on an education issue you care about!
What issue should my cohort investigate?
First, do not worry if your proposed topic is not perfect! We will be working with every cohort to refine their topic. In whatever you choose, make sure it is a topic you can speak to. Here are some ideas:
Black students from Louisville talking about racial injustice
Rural students exploring the role of internet access in e-learning
First-generation college students navigating the college application process
How can I apply and what is it like?
The application asks demographic information and about the issue you would want to explore. If you are interested, you can go to here
